Hair Highlights Price in Delhi, and Highlights vs Global Colour

Hair Highlights Price in Delhi, and Highlights vs Global Colour

Highlights are one of the easiest ways to make dark hair look lighter, brighter and more dimensional without changing your whole look. But before you book, you probably want to know three things: what they cost, how they differ from a global colour, and whether they will suit your dark Indian hair. Here is everything we tell customers who ask.

What are highlights?

Highlights are sections of hair that are lightened, and usually toned or coloured, so they stand out against your base colour. Because only some strands are treated, the result has depth and movement: the hair looks lighter where the light hits it, while the rest stays your natural shade.

A few terms you will hear in the salon:

  • Highlights: fine to medium sections lightened from at or near the root, spread across the head.
  • Streaks: bolder, more visible individual sections, often around the face. Priced per streak.
  • Balayage: colour painted by hand onto the lengths for a soft, sun-kissed fade, with darker roots.
  • Global colour: one colour from root to tip over the whole head.

Highlights vs global colour

Many people combine both: a global colour to cover greys or richen the base, then highlights on top for brightness.

Hair highlights price

At Coolcut: Highlights (global) ₹2,000. Single streaks ₹200 each. Global colour with L'Oréal Majirel ₹1,000, or INOA (ammonia free) ₹1,500. Men's fancy colour from ₹800.

Prices at Rohini Sector 13, Rohini Sector 9, Vikaspuri and Munirka; Paschim Vihar prices may differ.

Elsewhere in Delhi, highlights can cost several thousand rupees more, especially at premium salons or for very long hair. Always ask what is included: lightening, toner and a wash and blow-dry should all be part of the price.

Do highlights suit dark Indian hair?

Yes, and they often look better on dark hair than on light hair, because the contrast shows. The trick is choosing the right shade.

Shades that look natural on dark hair

  • Caramel and honey: warm, soft and very flattering on wheatish and medium skin.
  • Chocolate and mocha: subtle, low-maintenance, office-friendly.
  • Burgundy and wine: rich and glamorous, especially in winter.
  • Copper: eye-catching and warm.

Shades to think twice about

Very light, icy or ash blondes need a lot of lightening on black hair, more maintenance and more care. They can be done, but they are a project, not a single appointment.

Cooler, lighter highlights need more lightening on dark hair and more upkeep.

What to expect at the appointment

  1. Consultation: you show a photo, the stylist checks your hair's condition and history (colour, smoothening, mehndi).
  2. Sectioning: the hair is divided and the strands to be highlighted are picked out.
  3. Lightening: a L'Oréal lightener lifts those strands to the right level.
  4. Toning or colour: the lightened strands are toned to the final shade, so they look caramel, not orange.
  5. Wash, condition and blow-dry.

Plan two to three hours for a full head of highlights.

Caring for highlighted hair

  • Use a sulphate-free, colour-safe shampoo and conditioner.
  • Book a hair spa with ampoule (₹1,000) every four to six weeks; lightened hair needs extra moisture.
  • Use a heat protectant before straightening or curling.
  • If you are also planning a smoothening, smoothen first and wait at least two weeks before highlights.

Frequently asked questions

Do highlights damage hair?

Any lightening affects the hair, but highlights treat only some strands, so the overall damage is less than lightening the whole head. Good aftercare keeps highlighted hair healthy.

How long do highlights last?

The lightened strands stay light until they grow out or are cut. Most people refresh them every two to four months, or tone them in between if the shade turns brassy.

Can I get highlights on smoothened hair?

Usually yes, two weeks or more after the smoothening, once the stylist has checked the hair's condition.

Highlights or balayage for a first time?

For a first time on dark hair, soft caramel or chocolate highlights are the safest choice. They grow out gently and are easy to maintain.
